Bates is top notch entertainment for the breaking world. Never a dull moment in his room, runs through breaks quick but efficiently and does massive giveaways to give back to the room without raising prices though the roof to do so. Highly recommend

Similiar to other breakers, he does overcharge and is really annoying.

Scott is a very personable guy and will make you laugh. He always tries to keep things moving, but the down side of that is he does break stuff really fast, sometimes to fast where if you blink you might miss some cards. The prices are higher because of some of the Promos and things they do. They always seem to have a pretty good variety of products.

Good breakers. Not the best. Not the worst. Hoping to win the trip down to Miami!

This is a really interesting group of breakers. I believe they are part of a consortium headed by someone named Gelf. Their product line-up is fairly strong as they have most of the new items released, with the exception of hockey; they receive hockey, but it’s limited. Their pricing is their primary weakness as it’s typically well above market by 10 to 30%. You’ll see this theme with other breakers that are working with Gelf and the “Ripping Wax” family. Another item to be aware of is that they will take full cases, but sell their breaks (random or PYT) using only components of the case – in other words, odds are you’re going to end up ripping half a case, never a full case. This is not to say they do NOT do full cases, but their cup of tea, and profit margin, rely on elevated pricing while utilizing half the product.

In regards to their likeability, two breakers comprise of their team – Shakes and Scott Bateson; there’s a lot of lingo thrown around that appeal mostly to long standing customers, turning off newer customers that may not understand the “inside” joke. This is very common in the room and does not make a lot of sense to many folks. They attempt to be entertaining but it inadvertently turns into a sales pitch which many folks have a tendency to bite into. Hey, it IS a business after all.

I’ve broken with them many times and unfortunately my “mojo” has not jived well as my ROI has been less than 5%, which is only matched by two other breakers.

I would not necessarily say Nasty Breaks is awful, but with elevated pricing and limited ROI, if you have a few extra dollars to burn, I would be weary of spending too much time here.

This guy seems legit, and always has breaks ready to go. However, he just seems like a loud mouth meathead. I’m not sure why, but he might be a former fraternity member from your local division 1 school. I like his break selection, but I can’t find myself wanting to buy into one because he is such a d-bagish kind of guy. I guess its just my personal preference, but I’d rather break with a non d-bag.

I like breaking with CBJ (ripcitycards) and Bateson. Two of the more entertaining guys out there. The prices are a bit higher because of give-aways. Shipping time is good. Newer selections of cards always. Never a dull moment with these guys.

Breaking is all over the place now. Concept is you pay some money and then watch someone else open your cards. Often this is done in a group where you can pick a team or get a random team. So the idea is you can pay a small % of a full case price and get the team you want. Or multiple teams. Or the team with the rookie you are looking for. Or a random division of teams. You get the idea. If you can buy a full case for x dollars and open it yourself at home, you now are paying for: the people who are breaking your cards, the people who are packaging and shipping your cards, whatever cases/materials are used to ship safely, the technology and platform used to break, and the advertising related to it. So, guess what? the x dollars you paid for that case on your own is now x+something. So yes. Breaking cards via this is technically more expensive. Not because these guys (or any breakers) are a-holes, but because that’s how business works.

So… when you break, my advice is to look for a breaker you can trust. Are you confident they are handling your cards with care? Do you trust them with shipping what may be a really valuable piece of cardboard to you safely and efficiently? Do you like the style and pace of the room (and the other breakers)? Within reason, do you think the prices are fair?

I’ve found this to be the only room I’ll break in anymore. I’m not a power breaker or a huge collector. I’m here for some breaks and a little distraction. I’m 100% confident that when I send in money for something, it will get broken (sometimes after several days) or they will send me money back if it doesn’t work. I’ve always gotten the cards from breaks I’ve entered. I’ve never had them play favorites. They don’t hold back teams. Are thing sometimes expensive? yes. I expect they need to make a living and the parent company they are part of also needs to make money. The promos are usually fun. They do them for a reason – to generate business and excitement and ultimately all rooms do it to offset the costs of moving product that may be less desirable. So if you are getting into a break and part of the payoff is a drawing for 2000 break credit… and there are 10 chances to get into it, you can assume that 1/10 of that credit (200) is worked into the price of the break you are in somehow.

Some other things to know: some sites break based on a preset schedule. These guys break what is sold. They’ll work on “spot guys” when things are close to filling to sell the remaining spots to also fill breaks. This sometimes means a break you buy into sits in their store for a bit before breaking.

There seems to be a nice set of regulars. I’ve never had a problem with anyone in the chat. Mix of young and old it seems as well. Yeah – there is some inside jokes that certainly go around but that’s what happens with any social situation (which, btw, breaking in a chat room is). New friends join the group all the time and eventually everyone is in on the inside discussions. Or, just buy-in, sit back, lurk, and collect your cards.

After breaking in a lot of the higher volume sites, I’ve found this to be the place that fits me best. You may find the same thing or you may like a different pace, style, or product mix. I did some price comparisons around release times of some of the larger products and they are in-line pricing wise (within 10%) of any of the other large volume groups you’ll see on here. None of the breakers are real dummies (well, maybe a couple of the sites…). They know that they aren’t the only game in town and they certainly are aware of pricing on other sites. Things aren’t that dramatically different.

Nasty Breaks may eventually set up an entire industry for those who need breaking addiction help. The 2 primary breakers are Scott Bateson & “Shakes”. Scott represents the saying “you can’t judge a book by its cover”. He looks like a retired jock or bully from your nightmares. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Scott is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. He’s funny and shows a real interest in what he’s doing. Scott is very knowledgeable about all major sports and is a collector. Hell go out of his way for his customers. He tries to entertain which I think a lot of breakers could learn from. “Shakes” is just as friendly and knowledgeable, although it wouldn’t be bad if he ran into a razor from time to time. Nasty Breaks features frequent promotions that I really love. Buying into a break during a promo becomes more than an opportunity to hit some nice cards. Its a entry to potentially win break credit, unopened wax or other cool items. Promotions become events. The prices are pretty fair considering the giveaways they do. Your cards are shipped securely and relatively quick.
