Jan 15th | 2017/18 NBA Rookie Card Pricing Ladder | Tatum keeps going…

This week we continued to see the decline (or “stabilizing”) of Prizm Silver prices. In fact, the average dropped by another 15% to $46.71! This is likely the result of newer products rolling out (i.e. Revolution) and the influx of graded Silver’s hitting the marketplace. If you are an investor — the next 2-3 weeks are a great time to start snagging some good prices on your prospects. Terrance Ferguson is a great reminder of what investing in players can potentially do for you (500% increase in one week).

On a positive note, the volume is still holding strong as we only saw a 7% decrease in the # of Prizm Silver sales. I think we will see the volume of transactions keep declining throughout January… retail/hobby are almost dried up…and the 2nd wave of retail doesn’t seem to have as many top-tier silver rc’s.

NBA Rookie Single Pricing

Week from 1/5 to 1/12

Overall Average Silver Sales Price = $46.71

Change from Week Prior = -14.8%

Quick Thoughts:

  • Tatum is nearing his Dec 15th price. Pretty impressive.
  • Kuzma & Ball continue their fall. I don’t think they fall much further.
  • Markelle Fultz He’s too close to coming back. If you have a Silver, I’d hold at this point.
  • Lauri Markkanen He’s the best investment of the bunch.
  • Terrance Ferguson I’m a seller at $25.38 — he’s done absolutely nothing since his breakout game.

Criteria

We run reports on all rookies prizm silver sales for a given week. We exclude any variation, auto, or memorabilia prices to make sure you are getting a good representation of the actual silver pricing. We use silver prices as a baseline because they are considered by many to be the de facto standard for “base” rookie – NBA cards.
