ROI STUDY || 2017/18 Panini Revolution Basketball || Overview

2017/18 Revolution basketball is one of those rare products where I’m not overly concerned with the ROI because it’s such a unique + fun break. My boys love chasing the set and some of the parallel’s for their favorite teams. That alone makes this product a win. But… that’s not good enough! We need to know how to approach this product and if there is a good ROI possibility. So…. we take care of it for you. Read the details below, watch the video of the product, and decide if it’s a good investment.

What is this product about?

First off, here is the PRODUCT PAGE — find real-time pricing for boxes here!

This is a parallel collector’s dream. There are 9 different parallels + base — 6 are NOT #’d. It truly is the High Tek of basketball…and it delivers some absolutely beautiful cards for your collection.

Each box has 8 packs w/5 cards. Expect to see the following in a box:

  • 24 Base
  • 7-8 Parallels
  • 1-2 #’d Parallel’s or Auto
  • 5 Inserts
  • 3 RC’s

Don’t be upset if you don’t get that Auto…. these are the icing. You are chasing the parallels… here they are:

Box / Case Break:

As mentioned in the video, this was a mediocre break. Outside of the Lonzo Ball Auto + Collins Galactic it was just….meh. But….. I think this is still a very good product for the money. Check out the breakdown of our case with the updated AVERAGE SALES PRICE per parallel:

There are obviously lots of variables to consider when looking over potential sales. When I take the average sales price, I look at the LAST WEEK of sales and I remove any outliers that I can. I’m also not including potential revenue from BASE sales.

You will get ALMOST 2 complete BASE SETS and 80-90% of a RC set. That is likely another $100 in revenue.

With that in mind, our case should yield us the following:

So, if you hit 7 AUTO’s and 1 GALACTIC you could potentially pay for half of your case…based on average sales prices. The diversity of the cards + singles average sales price is what makes this product so intriguing. It’s one of the lower-risk products for the lowest risk sport (basketball).

RISKS

Biggest

The big problem with this years Revolution is the absolutely horrendous coalition. I had 4-5 players where I hit 3-6 of their parallels. When you are only getting 10-15 TOTAL of some parallels, this is a bad sign. Fortunately my lucky players were Jordan Bell, Zhou Qi, and Josh Hart.

But, there was a couple of instances where I pulled 3 of the same player in ONE BOX — 1 base + 2 parallels. No one complains when you are seeing that with Lonzo Ball + Tatum…. but my goodness, it makes completing a set almost unfeasible.

Also consider…

Folks still don’t know how to price some of these parallels. For instance, Fractal‘s are harder to pull then Cosmic & Sunburst but yet they sell for 50% of the price. This presents a golden opportunity for collectors to snatch up rare parallels for key players, but it makes it difficult to fully realize the value of this product.

Final Thoughts

I love this product. If you are looking for a basketball product to jump into don’t look any further. It provides a ton of entertainment, potential for huge hits, and a solid amount of ROI. If you can afford to grab a mini case ($600 ish) then that’s the route I would take, but single boxes @ $60 are hard to beat!

FINAL ROI

We will update this post with the final ROI #’s over the next few days. We may even add a few more boxes to the total to see if we prove out our pricing theory. 🙂
